Tom made a visit to kalalu village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements through facility construction. His emphasis was on hand washing improvements by encouraging residents to put on cement on the stands as well as the construction of other facilities. When he arrived in the village, he found when the committee members were waiting at the chairman’s place. Tom and the committee members first discussed about the progress of the program and how residents are embracing it. One of the committee members from the lower section was very happy to mention that her section of the village has greatly improved and that the residents are doing all they can to cement their stands. She also said that the resident in her section of the village have completely embraced the new method of hand washing improvements as compared to the tippy tap. Other members also spoke about improvements in their sections especially through the construction of hand washing stands and latrines. There were also reports of residents not responding well especially to finishing their latrines. Tom encouraged the committee members to be patient with the residents as they are doing so many facilities at a time. Tom emphasizes the need to promote good standard facilities than target numbers of facilities but when they are below standard. After the short meeting, they moved around to the lower section to check on improvements being made. Along the way it was threatening to rain but they were able to see a new pit that was recently dug by one of the stubborn residents. The committee members were so happy that this resident has finally dug a pit. Right after they had reached the lower section, it started raining but Tom and the few committee members drove around in the car. They were able to see new hand washing stands with the kibo jericans on them. Because of the rains, Tom dropped off the committee members to their homes and left for jinja 

Next Visit

2020-09-11 - Purpose: Tom and Chris made a visit to kalalu village t check on sanitation and hygiene. Tom will be moving around with some of the committee members in the section of the trading centre while Chris will be moving in the upper section. They will both be putting emphasis on hand washing construction and improvements as well as dish rack constructions.
