Notes
Harriet went to Ikumbya to follow up on smearing of the home facilities, construction of firewood risen stands as well as stove usage. She had planned to visit the village with the CDO but she did not find her at the Subcounty. She was told that the CDO had a field activity in the different village that she had gone to do. She had planned to follow up with the smearing of the home facilities especially the stoves and the entire kitchen. This is because during her previous visit there were some stoves that had started cracking due to lack of smearing. She reached in the village and was welcomed by the Chairperson of the Healthy and Safe kitchen program Jane Wankuluna. She asked Jane to walk with her to different homes of the participants. They walked through over 25 homes and all the 23 homes had smeared their stoves and the entire kitchen. The participants told Harriet that one of the community member Nabirye volunteered to encourage and teach every one to smear his or her kitchen. Nabirye told HARRIET that participants have so far smeared their kitchens the first phase, then she will go back and teach them how to decorate their stoves and kitchens as she did. Participants were very appreciative to Nabirye who committed her self to change the village through encouraging them and teaching them how to smear well their kitchens. Also most participants have constructed firewood risen stands well stocked with firewood. An interesting part of the trip, there was an old woman Nangobi who survived the weak firewood risen stand falling on her was helped by the participants to construct a strong firewood risen stands. Jane told Harriet that since their group comprises both men and women ,the men volunteered to look for strong poles and construct a strong firewood risen stand while the women volunteered to collect firewood and stock the firewood risen stand.Nangobi was very encouraged and thanked kibo for teaching her village about loving one another teamwork and Taking care of one another. She said that when one of their child in the village (Esther)was sick she was taken care of the village itself after kibo teaching them how to love one another. Also when Harriet was in their village and they saw Nangobi lacked a firewood risen stand yet she was old to it by herself. The participants decided to it for her so that she feels loved and encouraged. Harriet encouraged the community to always work together to help one another to overcome challenges.she also told them to remain cooperative and work with any development programs that may come in their village even if it is not from kibo. The participants promised to continue following with one another to ensure that they maintain their home facilities.they also encouraged kibo to check with them once in a while so that they are reminded Incase they backslid.
