Notes
Jeska and Harriet went to Naibowa to teach participants of group C how to practically build stoves. They found when the participants had already gathered at the home of Muyodi Moses whom they had decided to build a demonstration stove for their group. The participants had gathered all the materials that will be used to build a demonstration in this home. The home they had chosen had an smeared kitchen thus did not qualify for the stove. Harriet asked the participants why they decided on Muyodi to be the one to get a demonstration stove yet he had not yet smeared his kitchen and they are other members who had their kitchens well smeared. The participants said that the reason why they chose on Muyodi is because before the Healthy and Safe kitchen program started working in their village Muyodi never had a kitchen and since he had worked so hard to construct a kitchen, the group had agreed to motivate him with a stove. Muyodi had also promised the group to smear his kitchen after building for him a stove. Kibo staff advised the group to identify some other participants with a well smeared kitchen and then Muyodi will get a stove later after smearing his kitchen. The participants also requested Muyodi to give his view about choosing another member to get a demonstration stove other than him. He was very thankful for KIBO’s advice and promised to smear his kitchen with in two days. On the same note he voted for Nandego Florence to get a demonstration stove in their group. Participants supported Florence and said that she qualifies because she was the first one in their village to smear her home facilities. Kibo staff asked the participants to carry the materials that they had gathered to build a stove for Moses Muyodi to Nandego Florence’s home. Kibo staff asked the participants to mix dirt and grass at a ratio of 2:1,sprinkled it with water and stamped until it was ready to be used to build stoves. They did this as kibo guided them on how best they can do it. Then after kibo staff built a demonstration stove in group c as they explained to them the whole process as the participants watched. Kibo staff asked them to pay attention and asked questions where they did not understand because the goal of this program is to teach them how to build stoves so that they can build for other members in group . She also told them that they can also turn stove building into business by building stoves for money in the neighboring communities thus economic development. The participants thanked kibo for empowering them with a skill, teaching them to be servants not to be served and also guiding them to make better choices that can lead to unity and development. Kibo staff encouraged them to remain working as a team until they achieve development. They also told them that the next they come to their village they will be meeting group D and teach them also how to practically build stoves. They told them that they want to balance all the groups other than concentrating on only one group.
