Notes
Harriet and Tape went to Igerera B to follow up on stove building process. This is because previously when Harriet visited the village had told them to try to build a stove on their own that kibo staff will look at and see whether they built it well. They reached in the village and were welcomed by the Chairperson LC1 Kamya Charles who led them to the meeting place where the participants had gathered .Kibo staff looked at the stove that the community had tried to build on their own and it was well built. Kibo staff thanked the participants for having tried hard until they learnt how to perfectly build a stove. They encouraged them to continue building stoves on their own to ensure that every one in the group gets a stove. The participants told kibo staff that since they have given them a go head to build stoves on their own they have a plan to ensure that every one in the group gets a stove by the end of October 20202. Harriet and Tape asked Charles to walk with them to inspect other homes whether they cook on their stoves on daily basis, have smeared their home facilities or constructed firewood risen stands well stocked with wood. They basically focused on the lower section of the village whereby most people were cooking on their fuel efficient stoves, some had smeared their stoves and kitchens and a few had firewood risen stands well stocked with firewood. Kibo staff encouraged the participants to smear their stoves to stop them from cracking, look neat and last longer. They also told them to smear their kitchens as well. Kibo staff also reminded the participants to construct strong firewood risen stands and stock them with firewood that they will use during the time of scarcity. Participants were very appreciative to Kibo’s approach which is educative and encouraging and they promised to improve. Also the Chairperson LC1 told Tape and HARRIET that the healthy and safe kitchen program has greatly United the village in a way that they are some families that had conflicts among themselves but the stove program has united them through working together to build stoves. He said that as the Chairperson LC1 he has tried to unite these families and failed but the Healthy and Safe kitchen program has done a tremendous work to unite them.
