Notes
There is a great progress in this community concerning latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, rubbish pits, kitchen areas, clean compounds, use of ash and also constructed sustainable facilities to avoid repeating the same things in a short while. The new holes seen on the previous visit, have so far been completed as they are 2 new latrines and shower areas. There are also more three new latrine holes which are being dug, four new rubbish pits. They walked around some homes in the trading centre which were still digging there new latrines to encourage them, teach them assess, monitor and evaluate the progress of all the facilities which are constructed. There is a home which they went to and met a young Boy called Fahad and about 12 years old. Since his family does not have a latrine and shower area, he has managed to dig about 10ft deep for a latrine and constructed a new shower area as well. When Enock and the team reached there, they met with the boy who told them that his Dad divorced his mother. They now stay with the mother also though there dad constructed another house on the same piece of land just next to his family. He stays alone in his new house and he is always on the move. There are few times Kibo staff has met with him and talked about digging a new latrine for his family although he stays alone currently. He promised that he will construct and dig all the facilities in his home even though he hasn’t started on any. Unfortunately they did not meet him on this visit, as they were told that he moved to some village to cultivate his land then he will come back after a week. The chairman and VHTs promised to take the initiative of encouraging him to improve on the sanitation and hygiene of his home. After that, they walked to some other target homes of Mr Waiswa who had challenges with his wife and they also divorced. Although he left the wife without a latrine in the home, he came back and hired someone to dig a 15ft deep latrine. They have completed digging the hole, they are soon starting the construction of the latrine foundation (slab) and structure. This was the most stubborn family in this community. Some of the homes in the neighbouring village have also started digging new latrines and improving on the sanitation of their facilities. Generally this community has many women who are divorced from their husband. There are over 10 families and more where single mothers are taking care of their children.
