Notes
Tom planned a visit to kishaike village to carry out a third evaluation. He went with a community liaison officer from Namutumba district. When they arrived in the village, they were welcomed by one of the committee members at the meeting place who also informed them of a burial that was taking place at the neighboring village of Namusayi. The chairman of the village also came but after a meeting with Tom and the officer, they all agreed that it was going to b hard to Carry out the evaluation as most people were going to the burial place. They suggested that the evaluation be postponed to another date which Tom and the officer agreed on. While still at the meeting place, the police officer asked the chairman about the program and he gave him a verbal report about the sanitation and hygiene in the village. The chairman said that the village has improved greatly especially on the issue of the latrine as well as other facilities. The officer was also impressed by the new hand washing stand that kibo has been promoting in the village. She also washed her hands using the kibo jerican and she was impressed that there was water and soap on the hand washing stand. She also offered to take it to her village and promote it as well as constructing one at the police station. After the evaluation was canceled, the officer asked the chairman to move around the village with Tom and the officer for a short time. As they moved around, they saw many new hand washing stands as well as new dish racks. The police officer encouraged the chairman to continue engaging the community members by encouraging them to work and improve on their sanitation and hygiene.
