Notes
Tom made a visit to kalalu village to hold a meeting with committee members about the previous evaluation. He went with two government officials the health assistant as well as the community liaison officer for bugweri district. When they arrived in the village, they found when the members were waiting for them. The health assistant joined later as she came from an immunization campaign in the nearby village. The committee members each gave a report about their section concerning the sanitation and hygiene improvements in their area. On the issue of improvement, all the committee members said that there has been a great improvement in facility construction especially on latrines and hand washing stands. They each also pointed out some challenges in the village and each member gave names of those residents who are not responding well to the program. The community liaison officer thanked the members for their work and encouraged them to continue working to improve their village. He also strengthened them by saying that no one in the village should intimidate them as the work they are doing is very important to the government and that they are supporting a government program. This came after some members about two reported some members in the village intimidating them and not working. The liaison officer also thanked kibo for the great work it’s doing in the village. He said he was very impressed with the kind of improvements and sanitation standards in the village of kalalu compared to other villages. The health assistant also thanked kibo and the committee members for the work they have and are doing in the village. She also offered her support toward the committee and also encouraged them to work with courage and confidence knowing the government is supportive of their work. She also thanked kibo for the sanitation and hygiene program and the commitment kibo has put in the village of kalalu to improve its sanitation levels. After the meeting, they moved to a few homes of some identified stubborn residents. One of the home they visited was for the home of the defense of the village Mr kaziba Muhamud. In his home they found no facility at all and with open defecation being practiced. The health assistant spoke to the family and they promised to work. In another place in the trading center, the health assistant encouraged all shops or places that gather people to construct the hand washing stands so that people can wash their hands in efforts to prevent covid. After Tom, the police officer and the health assistant left the village and Tom headed for jinja.
