Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Harriet,Tape,Jessica,Suzan and Henry went to kalitumba village to take incentives to the community members who participated in the healthy and safe kitchens program. When they reached there, they went to the meeting place and they were warmly welcomed by the members who started dancing and singing while as a sign of welcoming them. The chairperson madam Dinah read through the agenda so that each person would understand how the meeting was going to be conducted that day. They all first agreed to walk around the village and check on some program facilities if they were still in good shape. However,as they walked around visiting home to home, it was observed that almost all the members were found cooking on their fuel efficient stoves while others needed to improve on some facilities such as smearing all their buildings and stoves which were cracking. Most kitchens also needed to be roofed especially from the upper section of the village. Later on, they went back to the meeting place and settled down together whereby one of the members opened the meeting with a prayer. The chairperson on behalf of the village L.C1 welcomed Kibo staff and requested them to comfortably feel at home because they feel part of them ever since they went to their village. Each community member was given chance to briefly introduce themselves and then after talk about a few things or benefits that they gained from the healthy and safe kitchens program. Most of them thanked Kibo staff for the program saying that it greatly changed their lives especially after receiving the new improved firewood saving stoves. They went ahead saying how they no longer suffered from smoke inhalation and infectious diseases, the stoves cooked faster yet it consumed less firewood. Their children also no longer suffered from burns in the kitchens because the stove was stable enough holding the saucepans in one place unlike the three stones open flames stove. Later after, each Kibo staff got up and thanked the members for accepting the stoves program. They kept on encouraging them to always maintain all their facilities and use them on daily basis especially the new stoves. Harriet went ahead and informed the members how they were going to receive a few gifts from Kibo as a sign of appreciation for the good work done. Each member would receive a piece of soap and then two large saucepans they would use as a group during any village function. She also encouraged them to buy more items on top of the two saucepans such as plates, cups, mingling sticks and chairs which they would also rent out to some other people in need and get some money. The members jumped up and began singing and dancing while singing songs of praises to Kibo group. They thanked them for the gifts and promised to always work together as a team for an effective development in their community.
