Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
HARRIET went to Nabikenge village to conduct first evaluation after the stove building. She reached in the village and started walking home to home interviewing participants as she recorded their findings.she targeted a few participants who were remaining to be evaluated. She reached eight participants who positively responded to her interview questions. According to the findings all the respondents reached on that day used their stoves on daily basis. Though two respondents had the three stones fire in the kitchen , they were pulled in one corner of the kitchen and they did not use them on daily basis or never used them at all. They told HARRIET that the reason they kept them in the kitchen they did not want to loose them because they may need them Incase they get a funeral in the home because they will be required to cook a lot of food for the Monours which the stove can not take care of. Also some two men ( Daniel Nagadya and kiribakye ) also observed a positive change caused by the stove in their homes. They said that because of the stove they are proud to cook food for the family or at times cook with their wives because the stove made the kitchen convenient which was not there before. Kiribakye said that because of the healthy and Safe kitchen program he was able to build all the sanitation and hygiene facilities because it was a requirement for some one to get a stove Daniel further said that the Healthy and Safe kitchen program provided him an employment opportunity because he learnt how to build stoves and now build stoves in their neighboring communities gets money to support his family. He thanked kibo for empowering home with a skill. HARRIET also followed up with smearing of the home facilities, and found when some people have started smearing especially those ones who had cracked stoves. Some members who lacked firewood risen stands have started building them and stock them with firewood to use during the time of scarcity. Harriet encouraged them to maintain their home facilities.
