Tom and Enock passed via the sub county and picked up the health assistant and together they went to the village. When they arrived in the village, they were welcomed by the committee members. The health assistant used the meeting to sensitize the committee members about covid 19 prevention measures and also encouraged them to stay safe and to protect them selves and their families from covid. As the meeting went on, they were joined by the CID of bugweri district and the chairman of the village. Even though the CID was on other duties, he was very encouraged when he saw many hand washing stands in the village of kalalu. He said he has never seen any village with so many hand washing stands and also had never seen such a hand washing stand. He said he was going to take it to his village and his family. He also encouraged the committee members to continue working to improve the sanitation and hygiene standards of the village. He also appreciated kibo for the great work it’s done in the district and encouraged kibo to even visit other villages because the program of sanitation of greatly needed. After the meeting, the committee members suggested that together with kibo staff and the health assistant, they visit the lower section. As they moved, they visited one home of the defense of the village and encouraged him and his son to construct good latrine structure. In another home, they found open defecation being practiced but they were encouraged that the residents had already finished the pit and has already started on the construction. They encouraged the resident to work hard and finish the latrine as well as other facilities. In one big homestead of 5 homes, they found only one small latrine recently dug which is serving that big homestead. The health assistant called all the residents in that home and each gave a report as to why they have struggled to have latrines. In that homestead, they have attempted two pits but all have collapsed due to rain because the homestead is found near the swamp and the soils are sandy. Tom advised them to dig circular pits if possible. After the health assistant said she is going to meet with one of the men in that home who has a business in idudi trading center so that he can offer support in the construction of a permanent latrine for the homestead. After that home, they visited 12 other homes along the swamp and found when three latrines have already been dug and constructed. For those still under construction Tom encouraged the residents to construct better structures using better construction methods and materials to avoid collapsing. They also encouraged residents to improve on the construction of hand washing stands and dish racks
