Notes
Enock and Martin made a visit in this community to continue checking on the progress and improvements in sanitation and hygiene. They also focused on homes in the trading centre where most homes didn’t have latrines due to the geographical feature of a hard bed rock. This has not stopped most homes to construct good and strong sanitation facilities as well as dig latrines. The underlying bed rock has bed the biggest challenge forcing some people to buy small portions of land on the opposite side of the village so that they can have a proper latrine facility. Enock encouraged them to use the pick axes that where given to them so that they dig deep latrine holes, taught them how to construct good and strong latrine foundation to give the latrine structure a good base for sustainability. Martin educated the community members on how to construct good and strong hand washing stations, taught them how important it is to have a hand washing station both at the entrance in the front yard of each home so that everyone who comes around first washes there hands, as well as constructing another hand washing station near the latrine where people have to wash there hands neatly after visiting the latrine with soap or Ash. Most people in the trading centre didn’t have proper hand washing stations and it gave us an opportunity to talk home to home as we demonstrate how to properly improve and construct sustainable facilities not only the hand washing stations but also focusing more on latrine construction and improvement, kitchen areas, shower areas and all the standards required. We also encouraged the community leaders to always motivate, encourage and evaluate there fellow residents so that each home has proper sanitation and hygiene facilities. It was a challenge to most of them and they promised to also work as a team to improve and encourage everyone whenever kibo is not on ground. Enock also encouraged the continuous use of ash on latrines since it’s been effective in chasing flies out of the latrine and keeping the sanitation of the latrines neat without any bad smell.

14801 This old man is the mayor in this town, he is showing us the new latrine constructed and we also taught him how to construct a new hand washing station in town since most community members in the town area didn’t have the proper hand washing stations. We also encouraged him to monitor his community members and emphasize hand washing program.
