Ida went to Kasuleta to teach about chicken feeds table and ratio. Ida encouraged the community to change the way they have been handling chickens in order to get good results.
Ida asked the community to take out their books and write the recipe for chicken feeds.
We started with the chicken feeds from day one to week eight.
CHIC AND DUCK MASH
Maize brand 62 kg
Cotton seed cake 25 kgs
Silver fish 10 kgs
Shells 02 kgs
Pre mix. 1/2 kg
Salt. 1/2 kg
At this point of eight weeks, we can tell whether the chics are male and female. After identifying them separate the male from female. Cocks eat different food from hens.
Secondly cocks eat more than hens so if left to eat together, hens will starve.
GROWERS MASH for cocks
Maize brand 70 kgs
Cotton seed cake 20 kgs
Silver fish 07 kgs
Shells 02 kgs
Pre mix. 1/2 kg
Salt. 1/2 kg
Ida encouraged the community to give lots of water to the chickens.
LAYERS MASH for hens.
Maize brand 69.2kgs
Cotton seed cake 18 kgs
Silver fish 5 kgs
Shells 6.8 kgs
Pre mix 300 gms
Salt. 300 gms
The chairperson asked Ida to continue with the poultry lessons because it’s one of the core incentive that will help communities sustain.
