Notes
Enock and Martin made a visit in this community to continue checking on the sanitation and hygiene improvement as well as to emphasize on the core values of proper sanitation, behavioral change and encourage standardization of all the facilities which lead to sustainability. During the visit Enock first emphasized on the challenges brought by poor hygiene where most families and residents spend a lot of money on medical and waste a lot of there resources constructing poor quality facilities which break in no time. He then encouraged them on the benefits on the proper latrine construction, shower areas, dish racks, kitchen areas, rubbish pits, and good hand washing stations. This will help them save more money to develop as a family and the entire community because there will be reduction in diseases. As we continued walking around, we saw many new latrines, shower areas which were not roofed, to use cement on the top of the shower walls to be strong from heavy rainfall storms. The community leaders and the community members embraced the program although few homes which are still digging latrine pits. Some of the homes which had pits we found them building structures on them. We encouraged the leaders to also put more effort to encourage those homes that are constructing new latrines as well as encouraging those homes who lost their latrines during the heavy rainfall to now construct strong foundation for latrine structures. Martin continued teaching how to construct good hand washing facilities. There is a great progress in terms of sanitation improvement in this community and most people are very happy and excited to use there new facilities.
