Notes
David and Steven went to kigalama village to open up the borehole at the kigalama primary school they wanted to rectify the cause of less flow of the water from the school borehole causing the school pupils spending over two hours before getting water for drinking as well as water for the home use for the area residents. They drove to the namutumba district first before heading towards kigalama they wanted to go together with the district hand pump Mecanic mr mukama samuel. Unfortunately he wasn’t at the district but he rung to the HPM of kigalama new sub county mr kabugo patrick to be there as the Kibo staff were opening the kigalama primary school borehole. They found when the head teacher of the kigalama primary school and one female teacher and some other two committee members were waiting for them at the borehole. About other forty residents also joined them at the borehole site. On opening the first borehole, it was found out that all the internal parts together with the water pump were damaged as they were using the borehole without the third plate which protects any substance from going inside the internal borehole cylinder causing stoppages. it was the same issue with the kigalama school borehole .They therefore invited the members for the way forward in the meeting. There were about 45 members as others had gone gone to a burial ceremony of one lady in that village. The chairman of the borehole said that there was need to change on the weaker members of the borehole committee replacing them by stronger and active ones for the good sustainability of their borehole. Secondly they agreed on Paying the following amounts; each member contributes 4000 shillings, the kigalama primary school 30000 shillings, other small schools which uses the same borehole 20000 shillings and lastly the hospital 20000 shillings. They continued encouraging them about the good water chain because all the jerrycans they were using to collect water were dirty. David encouraged them strongly on their facility improvement in all the homes and also encouraged them to always give chances to the primary school pupils first before any other resident getting water more so on the school days in order to allow them get a chance to attend their classes normally. They continued encouraging the rest of the community members who were lacking on their facilities to improve on them and those without the required facilities to work on getting them. Generally the latrine and shower area coverage percentage in this village is in the upper 80,s. However Kibo staff did not see anything like a hand washing facility in that area. Therefore it was noted to be the most challenging home facility in the entire section where they moved to.
