Tom made a visit to kalalu village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements and encouraging residents about facility constructions. When he arrived in the village, he moved on the upper section checking on facilities in homes under construction. He started moving from the upper section as he checked on facility constructions. In the first three homes that he moved in with two other committee members, he found when all the three homes have constructed the concrete slabs. Tom encouraged the residents to continue and finish their latrine structures and encouraged them to use good construction materials. In one home he found when the resident had constructed a nice permanent latrine and was about to finish the plastering. Tom and the committee members thanked the resident for working hard to construct the latrine. He encouraged him to plaster it to give it more strength as the latrine is in a swamp area. Tom also encouraged other residents to continue with the plastering and cementing of the hand washing stands. Tom after moved to the lower trading center to check in hand washing stands that were reported by some of the committee members that they were broken by some people in the village. When Tom arrived in the trading center, the residents reported to him some of the young boys in the village that are going around in the night breaking the hand washing stands. The residents were very furious and bitter but Tom encouraged them to work with the chairman to solve the problem. Tom also promised to call the health assistant and report the case. Tom was encouraged by the many residents for understanding the value of hand washing. One resident said he has loved the idea of constructing the hand washing stands and that those trying to break them will not discourage them from constructing more. Tom thanked the residents and encouraged those who have not yet constructed not to be discouraged. Tom also called the chairman of the village whom he met and discussed with him about the situation. The chairman promised to work with the health assistant to solve the problem.
