Notes
Tom made a visit to Mpumiro village to check on facility constructions especially dish racks and those latrines yet to be finished. When he arrived in the village, he first visited the homes along the way to the chairman’s home. In one home he found a resident who recently started on the construction of his latrine by constructing a concrete slab. The first slab collapsed as it was not constructed well. Tom thanked and encouraged the resident to continue with the construction of the latrine using good Materials. Tom also encouraged the resident on the construction of the dish rack and digging of the rubbish pit as well as the ha d washing stand next to his latrine once the construction is done. The resident he has bought bricks for the wall as well as cement. In the next home, Tom encouraged the residents to construct the hand washing stands and encouraged them to plaster them as well. In one home, Tom end the resident to construct another dish rack as the existing dish rack was not to good standard and has already started collapsing. After Tom arrived at the chairman’s home and together with another VHT they moved to the lower section. As they walked, Tom was not feeling well. He suggested to the chairman and the VHT that instead of moving to the further away homes, they move to the target homes without dish racks and latrines. They went to two homes near the chairman’s home and found that one of the homes they had already finished the digging of the pit. Tom and the chairman together with the vht encouraged the resident to start on the construction. Also another resident called Moses who resides in Kampala but has him family in the village of Mpumiro, has started on the construction of the latrine. He had dug the pit a while ago but construction had not taken place. Tom was encouraged to see this home start on the construction of their latrine as its been a long time visiting them and encouraging them. As Tom and the chairman continued to move, Tom’s headache persisted and suggested to the chairman that he needed to end the follow up and drive back to jinja. But in the homes Tom, the chairman and the vht moved in, they encouraged residents to finish their facilities especially the dish racks and to re-dig some rubbish pits that have gotten full but have not been re-emptied.
