Notes
On 11/6/2020 and 11/7/2020, Alex was very busy in Ndhalike village supervising the whole process of the new borehole drilling in the village. The work started very early in the morning on Friday and by the end of the day there was much hope to get. The drillers managed to drill up to 42M deep and got the first water at 30M deep. The work got very complicated when the hole started to collapse with a lot of mud falling back into the hole during drilling exercise. It took them a lot of time trying to blow out the mud using a lot of water the village people brought. On a very good note, the drillers were able to observe this quickly and got a solution to it by installing the temporary casings up to 30M deep but because of too much mud , the casings couldn’t go any further and this also made the work hard as they couldn’t drill further without the temporary casings being lowered deeper to prevent the mud from collapsing into the hole. The drillers managed to end at 42M on the first day of borehole drilling having managed to stop the collapsing of the mud. The soil formation was not very good in this location and gave them a lot of hard work to stop the hole from collapsing. On Saturday 7 November, drilling continued from early in the morning and lucky enough there was more water got from the rock from about 45M deep and drilled more up to 57M. The water was measured to get to know the yield of this borehole and an estimated 2500L/HR was the yield. Blowing of the water took about one and half hours before the water cleared. The community members were very happy and there was a group of women that danced and sung songs for the two days thanking Kibo group for having provided water to their community. For two days, the community members cooked food together and ate together a very big sign to show that Ndhalike village is working together. Alex continued to encourage the water user committee and the community members to continue with the spirit of working together in all their village programs. Another team to carry out pump testing and casting is expected very soon to complete work on this new borehole.
