Look Up
Alex W met with the water user committee to discuss about the importance of constructing a permanent fence on the borehole. Alex in the beginning met with the community and introduced to them the new idea of constructing the wall fence as a new idea from Kibo group. The community loved the idea because it solves the challenges of the wooden fence whereby the poles are stolen in just days and also the poles being eaten by termites and at the end of it all the community has to build new fences more than three times or more in a year. This puts a lot of pressure on the environment as many trees are cut down to construct these fences. Ndhalike village now has two wells all drilled by kibo group and both wells need to be equally looked after in the same way by the community. The water user committee agreed to put brick wall fence around the two wells and in doing so, the village has already raised 1200 bricks and want to start with the old borehole in the lower section. Alex with the water user committee discussed in details what is required to build a wall fence for each well. It’s a lot of commitment from the water user committee as well as the rest of the village members. He shared with them the plan how this wall fence can be constructed and good enough amongst the committee there is a professional builder who was present and willingly promised to help his village construct these two fences. Alex also told the committee that it was important to know that borehole ownership begins with the committee itself before it trickles to the rest of the community members. This water user committee was reminded to work together as one in every thing and because of its determination they have already raised 1200 bricks towards this work but the big huddle is buying cement for the two walls to be constructed. It’s very expensive for the community alone to do this work but before Kibo can commit on what to contribute, Alex will evaluate to see what the village will manage to do first as he continues to encourage and guide them through this process. Alex will go back to continue with the training of water committee and continue discussing about the safe water chain with all the village members.
