When Tom arrived in the village, he found when many of the committee members were still in their gardens. He found two of the committee members in the trading center. They called some of the committee members to join them for the follow up and three more joined them to make a team of six. They first discussed about the progress of the program in the village and they were very happy about the progress they are seeing in the trading centre. They all said that the trading centre has improved greatly and that the homes on the fringes of the trading centre are the ones which are not progressing well. Based on the evaluation of the committee members, they decided that the right section of the village to visit and encourage was the section from the trading centre towards the swamp. Tom accepted and together they moved around checking on sanitation improvements through facility constructions or maintenance. In the first homes they visited, they were able to see new rubbish pits, four dish racks as well as two pits in the same area. One of the pits was being constructed on while the other was still being dug. Tom appreciated the residents for their work towards sanitation and hygiene improvements but also encouraged them to continue working and have all the facilities in their homes. After they moved to the lower section where they found two newly constructed latrines but not yet roofed. Tom appreciated them for the work but encouraged them to finish their latrines by roofing them. Tom also encouraged the rest of the residents who have started and those with pits being dug to dig pits that will serve their families for long instead of digging shallow pits and having to repeat again after a short period of time. After one resident agreed to take the structure off his pit and continue to dig it further. Tom was also encouraging them about dish racks as well as their standards. In two home, Tom and the committee members found the latrines to those homes are below standard and need to be decommissioned. The residents also said it was their plan to start on new pits because they knew their latrines were full. Tom encouraged them to take action and do it instead of just thinking about it without putting it into action. Tom and the committee members later drove to the furthest part of the village next to the swamp and found when a resident had finished his new latrine, dish rack and was making bricks for a shower. Tom and the committee members thanked him for taking action towards improving his home. Tom later departed for jinja.
