Notes
When Tom arrived in the village, he found when the vhts as well as the chairman were waiting at the meeting place. After a short meeting with the vhts about some residents who have not yet finished their facilities, they started moving around specifically in those homes who still have facilities to finish. But in the meeting, they discussed about how to sensitize the rest of the remaining residents to work and the vhts said that they are going to stop visiting the residents during day because many times they don’t find them in their home. So, they will be visiting them at night at about 8:00pm when all are in their homes and talk to them about facility construction as well as sanitation improvements. Tom also urged them to move with the chairman of the village especially during the night. During the meeting, two residents among those still working on the facilities came to the meeting and begged for patience from the committee members. The residents said they had already got logs for putting on their pits and after that is done, they will start the construction. The residents together with Tom appreciated their honesty but encouraged them to fulfill their promises of finishing up the facilities. In two homes, Tom encouraged them to continue digging the pits as the depth of the pits were not yet to standard. Another resident even though he has a latrine he still uses, he has continued with digging his pit and is about 18ft. He said he wants to make it 30ft and construct a much better latrine than his current one. Tom thanked him for being proactive and encouraged him to also teach his neighbors as well. Their is also improvement in the near by village kisowozi as there are two newly constructed latrines and the residents were very happy to tell Tom about their improvements in their home. Tom also thanked them but encouraged them to also work on other facilities as well to make their homes wholly sanitary.
