Notes
Tom made visit to kishaike village to train the water user committee on their roles and responsibilities and borehole ownership. When he arrived in the village, he found when some of the committee members were waiting at the meeting place. They all waited for other members before the meeting started. When the meeting started, the chairman addressed the meeting and after invited Tom to address the meeting. Tom led the committee through a discussion on the committee roles and responsibilities in which they mentioned many of them like holding committee meetings, guiding water users and enforcing the established rules and regulations etc. Tom also asked them about the current committee on the existing borehole. One of the committee members on the existing borehole mr Sanyu said the committee failed and was disbanded a while ago because of mistrust and lack of commitment. Tom encouraged the new committee on the issue of trust and transparency when it comes to money collected for the borehole account. One elderly man on the new water user committee also pointed out that at one time a committee charged people for some parts yet they were given for free from the sub-county. He said when the village members found out that the parts where for free, they were very upset and that was the beginning of their failure to contribute money to the borehole account. Tom encouraged the committee members to be trustworthy and transparent. Tom reminded them that they are volunteers so not to use the borehole to get money. One other point discussed about was the respect for fellow committee members as well as water users as having a more calming language when dealing with water users. After the meeting, Tom scheduled with the committee for another session next week and headed out for jinja.
