Notes
The water and sanitation committee in Ndhalike village reported to Alex that the lower old borehole drilled in the village by kibo group back in 2012 once again broke down a week ago due to over pumping and over crowding at this borehole. This leaves this community with no water source to use at the moment but rather go to the swamp. Alex told the water committee that it was an opportunity for all the people to contribute towards fixing the old borehole and to raise the materials towards the wall fence. The community agreed to construct brick wall fences on both wells. This however means that the village needs to come together and fix the broken well on addition to raising the required materials for constructing the borehole wall fences. While in the meeting, Alex emphasized on the fence standards and told the water committee that erecting a metallic fence isn’t as sustainable as the wall fence. The fact that the metals can easily be stolen by people who deal in scrap while on the other hand no one can tamper with a wall. They all agreed that a wall fence would still be constructed around the metallic fence to add strength to the wall. Alex also talked about the importance of working together as a committee and not one person coming up with a decision like it was done on welding this metallic fence. While in the meeting, an LC 3 chairman donated a bag of cement to the village and the water user committee promised to move around the village collecting money from all the households towards constructing these fences and repair of the broken well. Alex also reminded the water committee of their respective roles and responsibilities and make sure that they work together as a group involving all people in the community. Alex will go back to continue with training of the water user committee and follow up on the progress of the committee fundraising for the materials towards the borehole wall construction on both wells.
