Tom made a visit to Kishaike village to teach and discuss with the village water user committee about borehole ownership and sustainability. When he arrived in the village, he found when three committee members were waiting at the meeting place and they waited for the other members. Tom took the committee through the topics of the day but the focus was so much put on the challenges the village has faced of sustaining a water user committee especially on the old borehole. As Tom let the committee through the discussion, they mentioned points like having an active water user committee that is transparent and trust worthy. When to came to the point to transparency and trustworthiness, the members suggested that that was one of the points that led to the collapse of the water user committee for the old borehole. The Chairman of the village spoke of the first committee and said that the committee was not transparent and trustworthy. He mentioned of the water user committee collection money and using it as well as the treasurer. When the village members found out that the committee had used up the money, the members stopped contributing money toward the borehole accounts. One of the committee members who has been acting as a borehole caretaker for a long time contributed his own money towards the borehole when it broke at one time for about two months. After the discussion, all the members suggested that one of the core attributes that make a borehole committee successful Is being trustworthy, transparent and committed. Tom emphasized those three attributes and the new committee decided those attributes would set the foundation for their committee. The members have already started collecting money towards the borehole contribution.
