- Notes
- Jeska went to kalitumba village follow up on stove usage , smearing and construction of firewood risen stands. This was a surprise visit because she wanted to find the participants in their day today life.
She reached in the village when no one was expecting her and started walking home to home. Her main forcus was in the lower section of the village. She found when the majority were using their stoves on daily basis except one home for Farida Byakika where she found the three stones fire along side the fuel efficient stoves which forced kibo staff to ask why they were using all of them.
Farida told Jeska that her mother in law who lives with believes in African traditions where by according to her religious faith she is not supposed to eat food cooked on a stove that has ever cooked fish therefore they resorted to cook fish on the three stone fire and use the stove for other kinds of food since they don’t eat fish every day.
Jeska encouraged Farida to talk to group to work together and build a second stove in her kitchen to take care of fish to avoid challenges caused by open flames.Farida promised to talk to the group and build a second stove to use to cook fish.
Also she found when some stoves had cracked due to lack of smearing and she encouraged them to smear their stoves so that they can look neat and last longer.
Also some participants who lacked firewood risen stands for firewood storage were encouraged to put them in place.
The participants thanked kibo’s approach of surprise visit which encourages them to maintain their home facilities.
