Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Suzan and Tape went to the village to follow up on the stove building progress, smearing of the buildings, construction of the firewood storages and the stove usage. However when they reached, they went to the meeting place and found a few group members gathered under the tree who happily welcomed them to the village. After exchanging greetings,Kibo staff requested the members to walk along with them while monitoring some program facilities in their homes. They all got up and began walking home to home while checking on the facilities and according to observations, most of the members were found cooking on their fuel efficient stoves which they had also neatly smeared. Some of the kitchens didn’t have the firewood storages inside and Kibo staff kept on reminding them to construct them so that they would save enough firewood on top of them which would take them for some time. Other buildings also needed to be smeared because the storms had washed off the dirt together with some dish racks which were destroyed. Although there were few members to improve on their facilities, most of them had maintained them. One of the members was found preparing materials to build a new fuel efficient stove because she reported that her old stove was placed in a wrong wind direction which was not letting enough wind to blow inside it and cook effectively. She was assisted by some of her elderly children in the whole process which was so encouraging to see. Kibo staff thanked each member for participating in the program activities and went ahead encouraging them to always maintain all their facilities as much as possible so that they would live a happy healthy life with their families. They thanked Kibo for visit and advice given to them and all wished one another a happy new year.
