Notes
Enock made a trip to this community to meet with all the local leaders and VHTs to talk about how best they can take the village forward with sanitation and hygiene, ask question how the countries general elections have affected them and also know if it’s okay to come back and work in there area. The chairman LC1 was so impressed to see back since we have helped him to improve the sanitation and hygiene of his community. The local leaders said to me, some people have greatly embraced the program using the pick axes to dig pit latrines. The chairman and his team agreed to walk around the community to know how every home is doing in terms of sanitation, collect the village data and also take the lead in improving their own community. After the meeting, Enock and the team walked around to check on how the sanitation of some homes and also see the new facilities constructed like latrines, shower areas, dish racks and hand washing stations. We encouraged , guided them to construct good standard facilities that are sustainable by using cement, sand, and burnt bricks. There are some homes which we left last year not having latrines and the good news. Is some of them have already constructed new latrines. This gave us an opportunity to also interact with those families to ask them how they felt having a new latrine, they answered that now they are so confident even in the community to speak up unlike before when they where ashamed. The most happiest people in those families where the women who was so embarrassed because they used not to have a proper latrine to go to, sometimes they used to go to neighbors latrines but now they are super excited. We encouraged and taught them how to construct good standard hand washing stations. After the visit in this community of igerera A, we drove to also check on another village.

16257 I visited this home and was grateful to still find the new hand washing station functioning. This gave me an opportunity to continue encouraging the residents to maintain and improve the sanitation level.
16260 A picture of a hand washing stands with the jerrycans which is still under use. This shows the community members have idea of hand washing and using the new model.
16263 This latrine was constructed the time when kibo was in holiday. I’m so impressed that people are continuing to embrace the improvements of sanitation and hygiene.
