Notes
Tom made a,visit to kishaike village to meet with village leaders and community members to discuss about the way forward for the water and sanitation program in the village. When he arrived in the village, he found a few committee members waiting at the meeting place but after waiting a while, more residents arrived and the chairman started the meeting. The purpose of the meeting was specifically for the chairman to inform the community and the committee about the money that was given and the chairman put it toward the borehole committee contribution as well as the money promised to the community by another politician when in the end never gave the money. This has been an issue in the village as community members have been accusing the chairman and the committee members of taking their money. The chairman in his speech narrated how the decision to put the first amount of money towards the borehole was decided on and he even asked the community members if they think it was a bad idea to put the money towards the borehole. One resident raised her hand and said that if the money was to be given to the community and distributed, it would have been used long time ago and she supported the chairman’s idea and decision to put it towards the borehole. On the money which was promised to the community by an aspiring MP, the chairman said the aspiring MP never gave him the money even after making several attempts to meet and demand for the money. He asked if there is any resident with proof that he was given the money and no person raised their hand. The LC 2 chairman urged the committee and the community members to resist in fighting with in the village because such prevent the community from developing but urged them to work together and be united towards a common cause like improving their lives such as getting clean water for the village. In Tom’s speech, he encouraged the residents to be united and also encouraged the committee to be transparent with the community members when it comes to money and other issues. Tom also encouraged the committee to step up their efforts in improving the sanitation and hygiene of the village as that Is core to and priority towards getting a new well. He also advised the community to stay united and not think about where the borehole will be drilled as only God and the surveyors can tell where the water is. Tom also informed the community and the committee that if infighting in the village and lack of commitment persists, kibo will let the district know and move the borehole to another village or community. The committee members and the residents promised to be united and work together as well a improve their sanitation and hygiene standards for their health.
