Notes
Tom made a visit to kaishake village to check on facility constructions and improvements as well as hold a meeting with village leaders and committee members to discuss about the way forward for the sanitation and water program. During the last meeting in the village, Tom had given tasks to the committee and village leaders to continue moving around the village to check and encourage residents on sanitation and hygiene improvements. Before Tom arrived into the village, he called the chairman of the village who told him that he was not available for the meeting. But as Tom made it to the village, he found the chairman of the village working in his cassava garden. At the meeting place, no person was there but one of the committee members the treasurer told Tom that Mr Sanyu was working on constructing some hand washing stands for some residents. So instead of Tom waiting at the meeting place, he went to see what Sanyu was working on. He found mr Sanyu working constructing for one resident but he had on that day constructed three earlier. Tom waited for Mr Sanyu to finish th stand and later moved around the village. As they moved around, residents were giving mr Sanyu money for the cement and requesting him to help them with the construction. Tom and Mr Sanyu also encouraged residents on finishing other facilities like the dish racks and re-emptying their rubbish pits. Tom saw that some committee members especially the village leaders lack commitment to the program. The chairman recently got a shallow well at his home which is serving his section and also another shallow well was given to a section in the lower section. This has now so much diverted the attention that the leaders seem not to be committed now because they have been given two shallow wells. Also the sections of the village that have received the shallow wells lack commitment to the program of the new well from kibo. So after moving around with Mr Sanyu, they came back to the meeting place but still found no committee members or leaders. Tom told Mr Sanyu that if the village leaders commitment does not increase, he will consider moving the well to another village.
