To educate the community members about diseases Progression , women and HIV.
Manuela went to Bukoma village to teach about diseases Progression, women and HIV. This lesson was intended to educate the participants about the importance of testing at least three times in nine month because because HIV progress at different level.
On reaching the village, Manuela found few members already at the meeting place waiting for her, she was so disappointed because she expected many people this time round, she greeted them and asked the members around, that where are other participants? They responded that they are still in gardens and others have gone for their business.
The few who were around suggested that they should go and remobilize other community members, they moved in several homes calling people to come for life skills class, after that second mobilization, they came in large numbers, Manuela was so plized to see them. Manuela asked the participants questions about the previous lessons learnt, among them there were some few participants who were around previously , they managed to share their ideas, after that, Manuela introduced the lessons of the day.
Manuela told the participants that, disease Progression is the period between the time of infection and the time when signs and symptoms associated with HIV/AIDS. She went on and told them that disease Progression has three stages 1 window period, 2. Incubation and finally the Honeymoon period. Window period is the time between infection and when a person develops enough antibodies to show positive on the HIV test. This is usually between 2weeks to six months. Manuela went and told them that during this period, the person is too infectious because no antibodies are controlling the virus.
Incubation period, this is the time between infection and development of disease symptoms associated with HIV/AIDS. This could take many years like 15years. After that, Manuela went on and explained to them about Honeymoon period, at this stage the HIV positive person now lives in harmony with the virus. At this stay the person may have minor symptoms but usually do no look sick.
She went on and also taught the participants about the co factors that can make a person sick of HIV to die very first like not taking the ARVs time, not having a well balanced diet food, through reinfecting them selves and not treating the sexually transmitted disease .she told them that if you wNt to live longer they should do the following for example eating well, having a enough rest, taking medication in time, treating all the sexually transmitted disease being faithful to one another and among others.
Finally, Manuela gave them home work on women and HIV and behavior change on HIV.
