Notes
Tom made a visit to kishaike village to check on what the committee has been doing to encourage residents on sanitation and hygiene improvements. On his way to kishaike, he met Mr Micheal from Kagulu at Namutumba town and offered him a ride. As they were moving, Mr micheal mentioned to Tom that Kagulu sub-county officially started to work. Tom asked if there is a sub-county heathy assistant and Mr Michael said yes. Micheal gave Tom the cell number and right away Tom called the health assistant and requested that they meet at the health facility. When Tom met the health assistant, he requested him that they make a visit to kishaike village if he was not busy. The health assistant accepted and together with Mr Micheal, they went to kishaike village. The health assistant said he had heard of kibo before in the village of Kagulu. He also asked when kib worked in the village and he appreciated the work kibo did in the village of Kagulu towards sanitation and hygiene improvements. He said he saw a big difference from in Kagulu as regards latrine coverage. When they arrived in kishaike village, they first went to the chairman’s home. The chairman welcomed them and they were able to see even some new facilities in the chairman’s home like the dish rack and hand washing stand. The chairman was very happy for the health assistant going to his village. From the chairman’s home, they went to the lower section where they saw new hand washing stands and also found when Mr Sanyu had just finished constructing one. The health assistant was very impressed with the new dish rack model and the hand washing stand model. He said it was good to see when th stands had jericans on them and with clean water. From the lower section they moved to the upper section and there they also found new hand washing stand stands recently constructed by Mr Sanyu. The health assistant and Mr Micheal encouraged the residents to maintain the sanitation and hygiene standards and also improve on other facilities like the dish racks. The health assistant also offered to go back to the village and do more follow ups. Tom greatly appreciated Mr Sanyu for his commitment and determination to help improve his village even though other community members and leaders have not been very active.
