Notes
Introduction Lorna went to Bukhana village to teach on Causes, dangers and what can parents do to help their children that have fallen victim. This lesson is taught to sensitize the community members on the causes of early pregnancies and how to avoid them. Objectives By the end of the lesson, the community members will know the causes and consequences of early pregnancies to the mother, boychild, baby and community at large. Overview On the way to the village , Lorna called the chairman informing her that she was on her way however he told her that he was away at another funeral. He however told her to go as the mobilizer was mobilizing. Lorna called the mobilizer Edith who mentioned that she should go ahead and come. However she did not do a good job as after waiting a while for the community members, Lorna decided to mobilize some members by herself and most of them mentioned they did not know about the meeting. It was unfortunate and Lorna apologized to them for that. The meeting however was started with an opening prayer and we got to introduce ourselves afresh and Lorna introduced what the lesson of the day was . She mentioned that previously in the LC meeting, she asked what challenge they had in the village and one lady mentioned that we should start with Decision making that is causes and consequences of early pregnancies since some children had fallen victim and they did not know how to help. She introduced the topic but because the quorum was few, Lorna did not go much in detail. She started by saying how busoga and northern region have been reported as the high spot for early pregnancies and School drop outs during this season. However, this did not start after the pandemic it was already there before but it was just spiked at this time as the teens have been home with slit of time on their hands. Lorna went ahead and asked each one what they think the causes were; Nabirye mentioned that in this season especially, children and youth have had a lot of time on their hands being out of school therefore falling in temptation. She mentioned that school helps to control their movement but covid brought problems. They all agreed with this . Lorna asked what else, Paul mentioned that not talking to children as parents and minding what they are doing or where are they at particular times. Lorna mentioned yes it is important to talk to our children on all issues. This period gave us a lot of time to be close to our children, understand them, listen to them and know how to help them. However most of this time has been used to do garden work because there was enough labour not knowing children are growing too. Others mentioned were poverty, poor performance , peer pressure and ignorance among others. Consequences to the child, they looked at death, the child not getting enough attention from parents, can be born premature, post partum depression that can affect the baby among others. Conclusion Since there were few people for the meeting and they came late and time had gone , Lorna left them homework on more causes, consequences and solutions available. Lorna mentioned that everyone is a stake holder here and it’s upon everyone to see to it that our children have a bright future. Lorna told them they will continue with the lesson and urged everyone who can to tag along with someone on the next visit.
