Notes
Introduction Teaching about facts and myths is a good lesson that helps the community members to know that HIV virus is real and it helps them also to stop thinking about the myths surrounding the HIV. Overview When Manuela reached the village, she found 15 people already seated waiting for her, she was happy and she apologized to the members for being later due to some problems on the way. As she was talking to the participants, than other members started to come, they came in large numbers totaling to 46 participants. Manuela started her lesson by asking the participants about the homework, the homework was about myths and Facts on HIV, women were to search for the myths then the men were to search for the facts, the women send in their representatives to explain their findings during their presentation, the women said that when HIV just arrived in Uganda, it come in different ways for example some people would suffer from cough, boils, skin rushes, diarrhea, skinny body and some people would say it’s the disease for the white, for immortality people , witchcraft and among others , also the men did the same, during their presentation, they said that HIV is real and has no cure, it can only be detected through HIV testing this was fun and Manuela really loved the new style of teaching. After that, Manuela explained some things small about their home work, she told them that it’s true that up to now people still think that HIV is witchcraft which is not true, HIV is real and it has no cure apart from ARVs which helps in succumbing the signs and symptoms. After that, Manuela went on and introduced another lesson on the immune system, Manuela told the participants that, the immune systems is the way our body protects and fights disease, she went on and explained to them that inside the human body their are white blood cells and red blood cells. White blood cell helps in protecting the body against disease and germs while red blood cell helps in transportation of blood and oxygen in and carbon dioxide out of the body. Manuela went on and explained to the participants the importance of keeping their immune system strong, she told them to eat food rich in vitamins C like vegetables, fruits and sea foods, she even advised the women to stop making the juice for their husbands only but should also make for them and their children too because they also need to boost their immune system. After that Manuela explained to them how HIV enters the body, this was done through a role play, the name of the game was the Elephant and loin game. Manuela requested for the six volunteers to represent the elephant as the immune system, then four volunteers to represent the loin as different diseases that attack the bod and one volunteer to represent the human body, Manuela explained to Elephant team that their roles are to protect the the human body from being attacked by the Lion team, she even told the lion team that their roles is to Attack the human body unless the elephants are very strong but they should try because they are disease that wants to attack the body the play was so good they enjoyed it, after that play Manuela requested the participants to seat down so that they review what took place during that time, she would ask the participants questions about the play and they would answer meaning they really understood it . After that, Manuela called upon one volunteer to come and explained to the rest of the participants, one man did so which was good. Finally, Manuela gave the members home on HIV transmission and prevention, she said the women will search for HIV transmission and men will for HIV prevention.
