Irene went to Igerera B to teach about focused Antenatal care,it’s importance , what is done, the contents of an antenatal card birth preparedness and contents of a mama kit. The meeting started with a word from the chairman who thanked kibo for their continued support towards their village, the village members for their continued mobilization and turning up when ever they are called for the lessons. Then encouraged the members not to give up but to keep up with the team spirit. He then invited Irene to talk to the community members. Irene thanked the members for their continued mobilization,turning up in each meeting and made a review of the previous lesson. Irene then asked the members for the meaning of focused antenatal care. It’s when a mother goes to be checked if she has a baby in the stomach or not,said isma. Its when a doctor or nurse sits with a mother and they ask her questions about her pregnancy, said rose, on addition to that Irene said, it’s when a mother is checked by a professional health worker to protect the mother and the baby through early detection of complications and other potential problems that can affect the outcome of pregnancy. On addition to that Irene discussed the importance of antenatal care to the mother and the baby which included, Identification and treatment of already established diseases,privacy and confidentiality,Continuous care is provided by the same provider for pregnant women in the community,Promotion of involvement of the woman's partner or support persons in the process of antenatal care and preparations for the delivery, it’s also a link of antenatal and postnatal care with provision of family planning services ,and prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS. On addition to that Irene explained the benefits of a mama kit saying it consists all the tools used on a baby and mother after delivery of the baby and these tools are safe to use preventing the spread of diseases. She then showed the members the different items in a mama kit urging every partner to set some money aside so as they get one for labor, saving money for hospital bills, prepare clothes for the baby, sheets for the baby and also preparing the family members for the coming baby. Irene then informed the members that next time they meet they will discuss about postnatal and post abortion care.
