Notes
Diana and Ida went to Bukudhumira to teach about harmony and unity in marriage(communication skills and conflict resolution). Ida took the community through a recap, Sarah said that, they worship together, cooking together, walking together. Ida thanked Sarah for her good memory and also those who had good ideas, she thanked them. She encouraged them to keep up the good virtues of marriage. Diana asked them what they understand by communication and conflict resolution. Ruth said that it is a way the couple talks to one another, Swaibu said that it is a mutual understanding between husband and wife, Abdul said that it is listening to one another. Diana thanked them for being vigilant in asking questions. Diana defined communication, which is a two way process of conveying information, ideas, feelings or opinion between two or more persons either verbally or non verbally. Diana told them the powers of communication which include, expressing yourself, listening and responding, regulating attention and intention, understanding and responding to people in their style. The husband and wife need to understand one another, be quick to listen and don’t be judgementative all the time. Husband and wife need to respect one another, be forgiving and analyze issues before they respond. They need to treat each other with dignity, no shouting or calling their spouses names in public or before the children. Ida added on by encouraging men to always listen to their women in case they have something they are telling them. She told them to communicate in love and respect. They should honor one another with their bodies and maintain the two beautiful worlds, ‘thank you’ and ‘am sorry’. These two words are the ones that run the home and promote peace and unity in marriage. Therefore how we communicate to one another matters so much. The chairman and the community were so happy for these lessons they kept asking questions, but because of time we told them that we shall respond to all the questions in our next visit.
