Notes
Enock went to check on the progress of sanitation and hygiene in this village as well as some target homes which promised to complete their latrines, shower areas, dish racks, kitchen areas, rubbish pits, clean compounds. Enock also focused on smearing the facilities, use of hand washing facilities and how to construct them, standardisation as well as reminding the community members about the challenges/problems which may result due to poor sanitation and hygiene. They talked about the diseases like cholera which may kill the whole village due to open defecation, others like dysentery, trachoma, diarrhoea among others. The residents are learning and embracing the program. The leaders are also taking the initiative to take the lead to encourage the fellow community members to construct better facilities to avoid repeating the same thing again. The residents are responding well with the program although most of them are in the gardens planting and weeding their crops. Most of the people go early in the morning and come back at mid day then go back in the evening that’s why there is a slow progress at the moment. There are 4 new latrines constructed, two new shower areas, with one of the children constructing a new dish rack. Due to Heavy rainfall six families lost their houses, the roofs flew off and one family lost its house completely. There are also several trees which also fell down and destroyed many crops. The good news is no one lost his life even though houses broke down and trees fell down.
