Tom made a visit to kalalu village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements on the upper section of the village. When he arrived in the village, he found when some of the committee members were waiting at the meeting place (the chairman’s home). The weather seemed not well as it was very cloudy and it was threatening to rain. But before moving to the meeting place, Tom first drove around the lower section of the village alone observing changes in sanitation improvements. In one section of the village, he was able to find two new latrines being constructed one for the elderly woman while the other for her son. Tom appreciated the resident for taking up the responsibility to construct a latrine for his mother because many elderly residents are left without the sanitation facilities. The resident said he was very thankful to kib for the work the organization has done in sensitizing and encouraging them to improve on their sanitation and hygiene. He said he is thankful because kibo only teaches people rather than imprisonments. From the lower section Tom went to the meeting place. At this point the weather was changing but two of the committee members requested and suggested to Tom that they together visit a section of the village that has been lagging behind. Tom agreed and they moved to the lower section where they found a resident constructing a new hand washing stand, one of the committee members who helps in plastering of the stands had just plastered it. Tom encouraged the resident to also hand another hand washing stand by the latrine which the resident welcomingly agreed to. In one other home in that section of the village, they found when they were constructing the latrine foundation and walls. This was very exciting to the committee members because they never pictured the resident constructing a Latrine in his home. The resident was also very happy and welcomed the committee members to see if the pit meets the required depth. The pit was 25 ft and the committee members said they were Impressed by the residents work. Tom also emphasized that the resident makes sure the latrine structure is roofed. In another home, they found a resident working on a dish rack. Tom and the committee members advised the resident to use better poles and use the new dish rack construction model. The resident was very happy for the advise.
