Notes
Alex first met with the district water officer Namutumba district to sign on the copy of the land agreement and update him about the three villages kibo recently donated boreholes to. He was indeed very happy for all the services kibo group has rendered to Namutumba district most especially in the field of WASH. Having received information that kibo group was drilling in three villages last month, he captured this into the district quarterly report that was submitted to the ministry of water and environment in Kampala. He commended the good work done by Kibo group in changing lives of Namutumba people and requested to continue with the spirit as many villages still need kibo help. The meeting with district water officer and the district hand pump mechanic lasted quite long before Alex proceeded to Butabira village. While in Butabira village, Alex conducted the training of the water user committee going through the respective roles and responsibilities, borehole management and promoting a safe water chain. The water and sanitation committee members were all present in the meeting and having agreed that the same committee would manage both wells in the village, each committee member needed to understand their roles and responsibilities and the need to work together as a team. Alex clearly showed every member how they are supposed to work in order to have a transparent committee. The chairman of the committee needs to guide everyone as they operate, the treasurer should be the only one handling money for the borehole and not all committee members because this brings a lot of questions. The committee members were reminded to be active to ensure borehole management for both wells in the village. The water user committee should ensure a safe water chain making sure that all people come to boreholes with Clean jerrycans and take to clean homes. All the people that turned up were reminded that It was the reason why Kibo group started with cleaning the village before tackling the water issue. The water user committee was also told to start looking for materials towards constructing the borehole wall fence on the new borehole just like it was done on the old borehole. They promised to get the bricks and the sand by next week. Also the remaining step of forming the bylaws will be done next week on Friday and all the people that turned up were told to mobilize all people to attend this crucial meeting of forming the bylaws to manage their boreholes. Alex will go back to guide the village as they enact their bylaws
