Notes
Irene went to Igerera B to talk about immunization The meeting started with a review of the previous lesson then Irene asked the members if they had any idea about immunization. She asked about the meaning of immunization, diseases immunized against, and myths about immunization. With several definitions from members like it’s when babies are protected from polio, said musa and Isma said it’s when babies are given drops in the mouth to protect them against polio on addition to that Irene said, Is the process whereby a person is made immune or resistant to an infectious disease, typically by the administration of a vaccine. On addition to that ,Vaccines stimulate the body’s own immune system to protect the person against subsequent infection or diseases.on addition to that some of the benefits of immunisation is that your child has the best possible protection against dangerous diseases, peace of mind that one has protections against related diseases,Creates protection to the whole family especially if there is an outbreak and the members were immunized. On addition to that the members discussed some of the reactions after the vaccine is given Sumaya said she uses an onion on the site where the injection was given which Irene discouraged because that may introduce bacteria through the open wound causing infections. Irene also discouraged the other members who put other things at the immunized site for prevention of infections. Irene encouraged giving them plenty of cool fluids, sponge them down, Incase the temperature persists give an antibiotic. The members also discussed some of the myths which included,Vaccines cause autism,It's not necessary to vaccinate so early in life, The vaccine schedule is too aggressive and should be spaced out,Vaccines cause the disease they are meant to prevent ,Vaccines contain unsafe toxins,The effectiveness of vaccinations has never been proven,Not vaccinating my child affects only my child. There after Irene informed the members that she was to give something small to members who have been coming for the lessons and that kibo is so grateful that they have committed. Irene then also told the members that she will be taking a photograph of each member for accountability and each member’s name was to be written down. The members were so grateful and the chairman thanked kibo for their continued support. Irene informed the members that she will be going back the next Friday for a home to home follow up.
