Notes
Jeska and Harriet went to Kazimba kungira to follow up on grass chopping and teach participants how to practically build stoves. They reached in the village when it had just stopped raining and most participants were still in their houses. After a few minutes some participants also turned up for the meeting. Kibo staff inquired from them on how far they have gone with chopping grass. One member called Akilori Josephine told kibo staff that they have so far chopped six basins of grass. Kibo staff told them that since they have cut some grass , to identify one member among to get the first demonstration stove and her kitchen must be well smeared. The participants agreed and chose Amuge Juliet to get the first stove in the village.Kibo staff walked with the participants to the identified home to check whether meet all the requirements.Interestingly the home had all the required home facilities like a latrine, dish rack,a shower area and the kitchen was well smeared. Kibo staff together with the participants, collected termite dirt from the anti hill, kibo staff mixed the dirt and grass at a ratio of 2:1 . They sprinkled water in it, stamped it until it got ready to be used to build a stove. They moved the dirt inside and after kibo staff measured the banana stems as they all watched while kibo staff explained the whole process. Kibo staff built the first stove in this village while participants were watching as kibo staff explained the whole process to them. They also encouraged them to ask questions where they did not understand. At the one stove was successfully built and when the participants saw a complete stove they were excited and thanked kibo for granting this opportunity to their village. Kibo staff told them that they will work with them slowly until they master a skill and requested them to continue chopping grass that will be used to build more stoves in their village.
