Notes
Tom made a visit to the village of kishaike to emphasize on safe water chain as well as enact bylaws. On arriving in the village, he found that some residents had traveled to a burial some where in Mbale. Also, the attendance was not good based on the fact that the person who was meant to mobilize well the village was among them we who had traveled. For the few residents who attended, Tom decided that it was better to teach and revisit the previous lessons like the the safe water chain and as well as the lesson ownership and sustainability. During the lesson on safe water chain, Tom emphasized the importance keeping and collecting water in safe and clean containers. They also discussed about how safe and clean water can be contaminated. The residents mentioned many ways through which safe and clean water can become contaminated. Some included; collecting water in dirty jericans, not cleaning pots for storing water as well as cleaning cups that fetch water for drinking. They also mentioned about the importance of maintaining the borehole cleans as well as avoiding other unsafe practices like drinking water on shared utensils or on jericans. They said this can also contaminate water. On the issue of sustainability and owner ship, they also said Iran was good to have active safe water committee and to always be committed to fixing the well whenever it’s broken. One resident mentioned that it was vital to also have bylaws that govern the well especially its usage. After that discussion, Tom mentioned to them of their role especially those that were present that day in mobilizing the rest of the village residents for the next meeting through which h bylaws will be enacted. Tom emphasized the value of enacting bylaws and emphasized the value of good attendance and participation.
