Notes
Enock made a visit to this community with the sub country health inspector to check on the progress of sanitation improvements in homes which are lagging behind. On my way to this community, Enock passed the sub county offices where he met with the health inspector and drove together to also check and encouraging the residents of this community to construct good standard facilities. During the visit, we walked went to the chairman’s home who was waiting for us to walk in particular home which needed more lessons on how to construct sustainable latrine structure. There are 3 new latrine holes which we saw while walking around, we met the husbands in these homes who we taught how to build strong foundation base although they don’t have cement they can mix soil from the swamp with water then place strong logs on the hole construct a good standard foundation so that they can construct good structures. The sub county health inspector also encouraged, monitored, evaluated the progress of the program, she was also giving one week to home which where lagging behind to take more responsibility since the government allows 15ft latrine depth and arrests those practicing open defecation. She was writing down all names of people who are lagging so that she will also follow them up or complete all the missing facilities , More so latrines. It’s been a rainy season and two homes without roofs have lost their latrines. This gave us an opportunity to teach the core values of having a good roof since it helps to strengthen their structures and avoid loosing them or repeating the same mistakes over and again. There has been a great improvement in the sanitation facilities where most people in the trading centre took a strong initiative to construct good latrines with brick and cement in most homes. This shows how residents have embraced and invested in their sanitation facilities. There are good hand washing stands, shower areas, kitchen areas, rubbish pits and cloth wireline. The sub community health inspector called Deborah appreciated the great support from the kibo group which has helped the district to improve sanitation standards in many homes and communities. She also encouraged the local leaders more so the chairman and VHTs to take the initiative and work hard to maintain put more emphasis on those homes which are lagging behind because they are the homes which are keeping them behind. When we all team up we can create a great impact this community.
