Tom made a visit to kalalu village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements. When he arrived in the village, he first met with some of the committee members who were present to discuss about the improvements and state of the sanitation in the village. During the meeting, the committee members mentioned that some of the latrines that were constructed below standard are collapsing due to the rains. The members said that some of the residents who did not get iron sheets are requesting if their is an opportunity for them to get some iron sheets to roof their latrines. Tom said that there is no any other opportunity but to encourage those residents to build their latrines with good materials and to construct them on standard. But some of the committee members reported that many of the residents especially around the trading center had finished their latrines but only two members are yet to finish their latrines. The members also reported of a new borehole recently drilled in the upper trading center. They said the borehole is a deep well and they are very thankful for the organization that help them drill the borehole. Tom and the committee members moved and visited a section of the trading center. They were able to see one Latrine still under construction. The resident had already brought the bricks and was encouraged to finish the construction before heavy rains start. In another section of the village, they found new latrines recently constructed. The resident were encouraged on maintaining the latrines especially now that it’s raining and some of the latrines that are not taken care of might collapse. Tom and the committee members also encouraged many residents on other facilities and were encouraged to maintain and continue improving on their hand washing to prevent the spread of diseases.
