Notes
Enock made a visit in this community to meet with the local leaders to talk about the last evaluation survey which was carried out last week to know the actual sanitation and hygiene coverage case in point latrines, dish racks, shower areas, hand washing stands, kitchen areas, rubbish pits and cloth lines. This evaluation was carried to know the actual progress of sanitation improvements in this community. As we were in the meeting, Enock shared the data collected from the third evaluation to the local leaders of this community to also have a copy of how there village is progressing. I shared to them two names of people who didn’t have latrines in our last evaluation survey and one is called mugaya Joel. They knew these families and vowed to take more responsibility to encourage these few remaining homes to construct good standard facilities. There has been a great improvement in many homes which have invested so much to construct good standard facilities with bricks, cement and sand in most homes. After the meeting we decided to walk around to continue checking on the progress of sanitation and hygiene improvements more so in homes which have been lagging behind. The good news is those two homes have started digging new latrine pits and one is already starting to construct the structure. There has also been a challenge of dish rack construction as well as hand washing stands where some people had constructed poorly to improve them, emphasized the use of ash in latrines to chase flies, encouraged the core importance of sanitation and hygiene. There are homes missing hand washing jerrycans and they hand constructed two hand washing stands one in the front yard of the house and the other next to the latrines structure. We planing to take the last batch of jerrycans during the next visit.
