Notes
Alex met with two sanitation committee leaders to move home to home and check on new facilities under construction in the village. The challenges in Kamudoke village include the soft sandy soils in the lower part of the village whereby many of the people face it rough whenever it rains. The pit latrines fill up with water and even end up collapsing and during the rainy season, many homes in Kamudoke suffer a lot and while in the triggering session this was a very in issue that was aired out by many people and were requested how Kibo group will help them. Some of the people have invested a lot in their pit latrines by constructing with bricks from the bottom but still get filled up with water during the rain season. The other challenge has been that many people in Kamudoke are located in the trading Centre and lack enough poles to construct standard facilities, some have to just buy from the neighboring villages. There is a slow progress in the village with majority of the people busy in the swamp planting rice during this rain season and the sanitation committee are finding it very hard to meet people in their homes to encourage them. Alex continued to encourage the vice chairman and the committee members to remain focused and promised that together with Kibo group staff to discuss and address the challenges to pave a way forward to speed up the sanitation program in the village. The WASH staff shall continue to go back and meet with the sanitation committee members to encourage the village residents to construct the required sanitation facilities and guide on standards.
