- Notes
- Harriet together with the chairperson of the stove program walked around the homes of the participants inspecting the usage of the stoves and finding out if they have experienced any challenge with the stoves. She was impressed to see that all the stoves were well smeared , the homes were kept clean despite being a rainy season and the stoves were used on daily basis . This was evidenced by the absence of three stones in the kitchen in almost every kitchen except in one home for Nabirye Efulansi. Harriet was forced to ask her to find out why she did not take out the three stones after starting to use her stove. She told her that in her culture the Chwezi culture she doesn’t eat fish yet other of her family members do. Therefor the three stones are only used when the family members are cooking fish because it is against her culture to eat food cooked on the stove that has ever cooked fish. Harriet technically reminded her about the dangers of open flames because she feared that if she used a blaming language Nabirye would think that Harriet is against her culture and may be she is trying to convert her.Harriet reminded her about the dangers of open flames and she decided that she will work with her family to build another stove that will be used to cook fish.
Also Maliga uppers freely taught lower Maliga how to build stoves and most members learnt how to build stoves and currently they cook using these stoves. An old woman “perepetwa” thanked Harriet on behalf of Kibo that she feels her sight was restored, her hygiene improved because of the stove that Kibo helped her to get. The men were also thankful to KIbo for inviting their wives for the women conference that has changed their bad behaviours. They said that some women never respected their husband but now they listen to them and respect them. They promised that they will always support them to come for such conferences.
