Notes
Introduction Alcohol is a liquid when taken too much can make a person drunk, teaching community members about the causes and effects of Alcoholism may not be easy because almost every person takes it and they don’t want to study about it, but Manuela has got courage to teach this lesson so that the to prevail change in some families.previously when Manuela was living the village she gave the participants an home work to search for the causes and effects Alcoholism , they were happy and responded positively that they will search on that. Objective By the end of this lesson , participants will be to know all the dangers of Alcoholism. By the end of this lesson, participants will know why they take alcohol and what should they do in order to avoid excessive drinking. Overview Manuela reached the village early and found when leaders have already prepared the seating arrangement, she greeted them and requested for one of the participants to bring more seats, after short time, participants came in large numbers, sooner later they came and the meeting started with an opening prayer lead by Veronica , after prayers, Manuela asked the members about what they learnt previously, Manuela was happy to see half of her participants raising up their hands to give their views about the previous lessons. Many people shared their views and after that Manuela introduced another lesson on the causes and effects of Alcoholism, Manuela asked them what is alcohol? They gave her many answers even including the different types, so they mentioned many, Manuela asked them again that how do they feel while drinking, they said good. Manuela explained to them the different ways of drinking, she told them that there are people who drink to the extent that they don’t eat food, bath, wash their clothings, and there are others who drinks with discipline, they eat, they bath, they wash their clothes in general they are smart and they in most cases they take alcohol at home. Their families are never suffering. After that explanation, Manuela divided the participants in three groups, each group discussed differently for example group A looked at why people drink, group B looked at effect of drinking then group C Looked at possible solutions to Alcoholism. During this group discussion, Manuela was monitoring the participants and seeing how they are reacting to the questions. After all the decisions, Manuela ordered the participants to come back in class. She asked for representatives to step in front. Group A, went first as usual, Group’s question was, why do people drink? During the presentation, they sighted answers like people drink to pass time, because it’s genetic, they drink to share ideas, they drink because they saw their peers also drinking, some people drink to gain boldness and others, after that, Manuela asked members to add on if they have something different apart from what was presented. Group B, was the second to present, their questions was on the effects of Alcoholism to the family members. During the presentation this group was dominated by women, they said as women to husbands who drinks, the following are problems that they go through as families. In a home where a man drinks, kids don’t go to school, medication is poor, poor feeding as result of the father failing to provide, lack of basic needs like no good shelter, bad and old clothing and others they went on and also said a man who drinks smells a lot, they don’t bath, they look sickly, in a home where a father is an Alcoholism, there is qurrals all the times, domestic violence, poverty, sickness and no piece in that home. Finally group C, for this group for them they looked at possibilities to overcome Alcoholism, they said there must be rules on the time and amount of consumption, parents of the children who doesn’t go to school simply because their parents can’t pay school fees because of Alcoholism should be arrested and put in jail, should increase taxes on Alcohol so that the price can high and they fail to buy much quantities, there is poverty in a home where parents do drink alcohol, domestic violence all the time, they called up on the leaders in that village to help them as mothers They also suggested families should have meeting about family welfare. They also said that too much intake of alcohol can lead to disease for example lung cancer resulting to death and other things. After presentation, Manuela advised the men who drinks to drink responsibly and also take good care of their families, she even told them that they can stop drinking alcohol slow up to that time they feel no more of it, she even advised the mother to keep on taking to their husbands about it, she even told them that, some of the disease caused by alcohol are not treated the only solution is death. As Manuela was teaching them most women sighted some issues on the irresponsibility of their husbands. So Manuela decided to teach on that day about roles and responsibilities. Finally Manuela gave the participants homework on the role and responsibilities of family members fathers, mothers and children.
