Notes
Enock went to this community to check on the progress of sanitation improvements. There are so many new facilities which under construction more so latrines, shower areas, dish racks, kitchen areas and planning to conduct hand washing triggering next month. When he reached this community, He went to meet the local leader and VHTs who where waiting for him. The meeting started and they welcomed him to talk about what he had planned to carry out in their community. Enock first thanked them for taking time off to come and learn, meet to discuss how to empower the residents to construct good standard facilities. One of the leaders said they have a challenge of few people who are so slow to complete there facilities. After the short meeting we decided to go follow up on homes which have been slow to respond to bring them up to speed through remaining them on the many challenges and diseases which are caused due to poor sanitation and hygiene say diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, tetanus, bilharzia and many more which bring a lot of expenses on medication and even sometime causes death to their beloved ones. We encouraged them about the benefits and importance of having good and sustainable facilities. As we where having a dialogue with these families, they felt ashamed of not having latrines and shower areas. There are also some good facilities which are constructed with bricks cement and sand. The biggest challenge in this community many latrines fall due to poor construction and heavy rainfall. Ironically this gave me and opportunity to teach, sensitize and emphasize on the construction of good foundation before constructing a structure on the latrine. I explained to the residents how to use good materials for constructing the foundation. The residents where so happy and appreciative for the lessons. They are willing to construct good facilities through the lessons taught.
