Notes
Tom made a visit to kalalu village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as facility constructions. Toms plan was to first hold a meeting with the committee members and then move later around the village. But after a while and there were only two people present, the chairman suggested that they move around and they will hold the meeting later after moving around. They moved to the lower section of the village at the recommendation of Mr Mulega. When they reached one of the sections past the primary school, they found when a resident had recently finished his new latrine. The latrine was constructed of brick, cement and was well plastered. The resident was very happy that he has a new Latrine and thanked kibo for encouraging him to construct a good Latrinr that fits his home. In another home, they found a,home of Mr Steven with still no latrine. The chairman was very discouraged that this resident upto now has not finished his latrine. The Chairman offered to call the resident and meet him to discuss about the situation. In another home just next to mr steven’s home, they found a latrine that recently collapsed but the residents still use it. The pit is not safe for use. The chairman was shocked that the residents are using the open latrine. He mentioned to the neighbors to inform the residents in that home to work and construct a new latrine which is to standard. As they moved, they kept encouraging residents on hand washing as some of them had no jericans on their hand washing stands. Tom was very impressed by one resident in the trading center who had maintained her jerican very clean and she puts it on the stand everyday. Mr Mulega and promised to go around the lower section reminding and encouraging residents to finish with the construction of the dish racks as there were some homes with no dish racks.
