Notes
Enock made a visit to this community to check on the progress of sanitation improvements in this village. This is one of the new village wash program started walking in. The people are busy construing and digging up new pit latrines, constructing shower areas, dish racks, and soon next month we shall trigger in hand washing. When he reached this community, he went to the chairman’s home where the community leaders were busy waiting for him. He met with the leaders, encouraged them how to construct sustainable facilities, emphasize and empowered them to take the initiative to lead by example. Ironically he told the community leaders to continue working hard and improve their sanitation in their homes before they visit other community members homes. This will empower them and improve there confidence to stand firm while encouraging the residents to construct and improve there sanitation and hygiene facilities. He gave them an example why some leaders are don’t want to walk around or even chair meetings in community about sanitation. This is due to lack of proper sanitation facilities in their homes. The chairman was so impressed and appreciative for encouraging them as leaders. They promised to first complete all, the missing facilities in their homes before they can walk in other peoples homes to also encourage them how to construct sustainable facilities. After the meeting, they teamed up with Enock and to walk around the community to also continue encouraging, educating, empowering, monitoring, sensitize, assess and evaluate the progress of sanitation improvements in homes which are constructing new facilities. The homes which already completed the construction of latrines and shower areas, where encouraged to use ash inside the latrine holes to chase the flies and keep the floor neat and clean. He also taught how to construct good foundation on latrine holes so that the facilities are strong. The residents where also very happy for the lessons and embraced the program which is increasing there development as a village.
