Notes
Alex was in Butabira to meet with the new water user committee to review their respective roles and responsibilities, follow up on the materials to be contributed by the village, review the borehole bylaws enacted by the community before typing and emphasizing a safe water chain. The community has already contributed money and bought the required number of bricks and a trip of sand put at the new borehole site. Kibo group will have to also top up the remaining part of cement, pipe before the construction can start. Alex reminded the committee members to remain active and meet their roles and responsibilities as required to ensure borehole functionality at all times. Also a safe water chain need to be ensured by encouraging all people to have clean Jerrycans and clean homes. Together with the committee members we first moved in some homes to check on sanitation status in the homes, it was observed that many of the homes were found well swept and found the hand washing facilities in place with water. Alex continued to encourage all the committee members to ensure that people are reminded at all times to ensure that the village sanitation status is maintained. The old borehole used to have so many people that would congest but now it’s more for people to access water without spending a lot of time lining up waiting for water. The new borehole drilled recently by Kibo group in the lower part of the village has helped to reduce on the distance many people used to walk coming to the old borehole and also reduced on the congestion. Early next month, the village will be guided on how construct a wall fence around the new borehole before commissioning this new borehole. Alex will help to type for the village the bylaws they came up with to be documented by the water user committee for all water users to abide. The village people are very excited about the new kibo program in the village and are anxious to learn how to build these stoves on their kitchens. WASH will only go back after Kibo’s contribution towards the wall fence construction is ready and will be guiding the village to construct the wall fence around the new borehole.

19761 This old well in Butabira used to have long ques before a new borehole drilled by Kibo group in the village. It’s now easy for one to access water easily without waiting for so long since some people can now go to the new well
